What Is a Cultured Marble Shower System?
A cultured marble shower system is a complete shower enclosure made entirely from cultured marble — wall panels for the sides and back, plus a shower pan (base) for the floor. Together, these components create a seamless, groutless shower environment that is waterproof, durable, and significantly easier to maintain than traditional tile.
Unlike tile showers, which are assembled from dozens or hundreds of individual pieces joined by grout, a cultured marble shower system uses large-format panels and a one-piece pan. This means fewer joints, no grout lines, and a watertight enclosure that looks clean from day one and stays that way for decades.

Shower Wall Panels: Patterns and Options
ARSTAR's cultured marble shower panels are available in six distinct patterns, allowing designers and homeowners to create visual texture and interest without the maintenance burden of actual tile grout:
- Solid: A completely smooth, uninterrupted surface. The most minimalist option — clean lines with zero visual distraction. Ideal for modern and contemporary designs.
- Brick: A classic running-bond brick pattern molded into the panel surface. Provides the look of subway tile without any actual grout lines.
- Chevron: An angled, V-shaped pattern that adds dynamic visual movement to the shower walls. A popular choice for accent walls.
- Subway: The timeless rectangular tile pattern, cast into the cultured marble surface. All the classic appeal of subway tile with none of the grout maintenance.
- Square: A grid pattern of square "tiles" molded into the surface. Clean and geometric, working well in both traditional and modern designs.
- Diamond: Square tiles rotated 45 degrees to create a diamond pattern. Adds visual interest and a sense of height to shower walls.
All six patterns are available in ARSTAR's full palette of 44+ colors in both gloss and matte finishes. Panels can be mixed — for example, using a chevron accent wall with solid side panels — for custom design combinations.
Panel Sizing
Shower panels are produced in standard sizes to fit common shower configurations. Panels are typically available in widths matching standard shower openings (36", 48", 60") and heights of 72" or 96" (floor to ceiling or standard tub-surround height). Custom sizes are available for non-standard installations.
Shower Pans: Sizes and Drain Configurations
ARSTAR's cultured marble shower pans are available in 11 configurations, covering the most common shower footprints and drain positions:
Standard Sizes
- 36" x 36" (square — ideal for corner showers)
- 36" x 48" (rectangular — the most popular size for standard showers)
- 36" x 60" (rectangular — provides generous shower space)
- 48" x 48" (large square — for spacious shower enclosures)
- Additional configurations for neo-angle and barrier-free (ADA-compliant) applications
Drain Positions
Drain position affects both the plumbing rough-in and the shower's usable floor space. ARSTAR pans are available with:
- Center drain: The most common configuration. Works with most standard plumbing rough-ins.
- Offset drain (left or right): Positions the drain toward one end of the pan, maximizing the usable standing area.
- End drain: Places the drain at one end of the pan — often used when retrofitting existing plumbing positions.
All shower pans feature a built-in slope toward the drain to ensure positive water flow and prevent standing water.
Why Choose Cultured Marble Over Tile?
The advantages of a cultured marble shower system over traditional tile are significant:
No Grout, No Grout Problems
Grout is the weakest link in any tile shower. It is porous, prone to mold and mildew, and requires regular sealing (usually annually). Over time, grout cracks, discolors, and eventually needs to be dug out and replaced — a messy, expensive process. Cultured marble has zero grout lines. The patterned surfaces create the look of tile without any of the grout maintenance.
Faster Installation
A tile shower takes 3–5 days to install when you account for waterproofing membrane, tile setting, grouting, and curing. A cultured marble shower system — panels and pan — can be installed in a single day by an experienced installer. For builders, contractors, and hotel renovators, this time savings is significant.
Waterproof by Design
Every cultured marble panel and pan is inherently waterproof. The non-porous gel coat does not absorb water — period. With tile, the waterproofing relies on the membrane behind the tile and the integrity of every grout line. If even one grout line fails, water can penetrate and cause hidden damage.
Long-Term Cost Advantage
While the upfront material cost of cultured marble panels may be comparable to mid-range tile, the total cost of ownership is lower when you factor in:
- Faster installation labor (1 day vs. 3–5 days)
- No waterproofing membrane purchase or installation
- No grout or grout sealer purchases
- No ongoing grout maintenance or regrout costs over the life of the shower
- Longer lifespan (25–50 years vs. 15–20 years before grout failure typically requires renovation)
Color Coordination
One of the major advantages of sourcing your entire shower system from a single manufacturer is perfect color matching. When you order ARSTAR shower panels and a shower pan in the same color, they are produced with the same gel coat batch, ensuring consistent color across every surface in the shower.
You can also coordinate your shower system with your ARSTAR vanity top color for a cohesive bathroom design — same color family, same finish (gloss or matte), from the same manufacturer.
